The Kendal Train Crash, A case of Sabotage?
Kendal, Manchester a sleepy town in South central Jamaica, its almost midnight, on the first of September 1957, the residents of the town are fast asleep, but in a few minutes their lives will be changed forever. A passenger train travelling from Montego bay, which is scheduled To make a stop at the Kendal station is out of control, the operator tries to stop it but the brakes don’t work.
The 1,600 passengers on the train are not aware of the tragedy that awaits them.
As the train was approaching a bend in the tracks, the speed caused the coaches to sway, then there was a horrific jolt, and tremor likened to that of an earthquake.
Eight of the 12 coaches were wrecked and 171 souls were plunged into eternity while seven hundred lives were changed forever, but how did this happen and why did the brakes not work? Was it an accident or a case of sabotage?
This is the story of the Kendal train crash, the worst rail disaster in Jamaica's history.
