Each year, over 250,000 new cases of cancer affect children under the age of 20 worldwide. While the survival rate for many childhood cancers has significantly increased, two-thirds of childhood cancer patients will have long-term side effects and chronic conditions from their life-saving treatments. Despite these statistics, childhood cancer research is widely underfunded.
The Pediatric Hematology Oncology division is committed to research to find cures for childhood cancer, to find effective treatments for disease and to improving and extending the life of our patients and their families. Division Chief, Dr. Theodore Moore, and Dr. Theodore Scott Nowicki, are joined by parents Talia and Todd Savern-McCormick with their daughter Skye to share their experience at UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital.
