As South Africans prepare to commemorate the June 16 Soweto Uprising, the whereabouts of one of the student activists of 1976, remain a mystery. Mbuyisa Makhubu left his Soweto home after his image was widely circulated. In the iconic photo, he can be seen carrying a boy who was shot by the police. Mbuyisa fled to Botswana after the 1976 riots and fathered a child in that
country. His son, Thato Mokhele, who is now in his 40s, still wants answers. Newzroom Afrika contributor Mpho Lakaje has this exclusive.
