When people think of the shoulder, they usually only visualize the glenohumeral joint. However, scapular motion within the scapulothoracic joint is JUST as important! Without adequate scapular coordination, we will be forced to compensate for lack of motion with excessive glenohumeral motion. A common strategy we see is scapular “winging.” This is the excessive tilting of the medial border (inside edge) during motions like throwing, pressing, or pulling. Try these exercises below to help coordinate/strengthen the scapulothoracic joint so your shoulder blade stays snug against the rib cage during activity. #physicaltherapy #scapularpain #scapularstability
