Jenn Harrison served in the Colorado National Guard and is about to obtain her MBA from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
WorkingNation sat down with Harrison at 2022 Disability:IN Conference in Dallas where she was a participant of the gathering’s NextGen Talent Accelerator.
While in the military, Harrison suffered knee and disc injuries. After four and half years, she was medically discharged from the National Guard.
Upon her release, Harrison says the Department of Veterans Affairs was instrumental in helping her figure out her next step. “When I got out, the VA contacted me. They put me into the vocational rehab program which is just amazing. I wouldn't be on this journey if it wasn't for my commander and then the VA. I was able to get into MSU Denver into their graduate program.”
Harrison says she knew that her course of study would be related to business and is particularly interested in supply chain. “It made me understand basically how the world works – as far as how we get our food, how we get our supplies.”
“When COVID happened, the first thing I did was turn on CNBC and Bloomberg to find out what the companies were saying about how the supply chain will be affected. Because I understood how supply chain works with batching and getting things to people or to companies in real time, it was a very interesting experience and learning curve to go through.”
