STORYLINE
A rare chance to sit down for dinner with world-famous Spanish Catalan restaurateur Ferran Adria will be up for auction in Hong Kong on Wednesday.
Also coming under the hammer will be items used in Adria's now-closed restaurant elBulli, from tasting spoons to top-of-the-range knives - as well as the contents of the restaurant's wine cellar.
ElBulli was rated the world's best restaurant five times by British magazine The Restaurant, with Adria often cited as the planet's most talented and imaginative chef.
It closed in July 2011 after maintaining an exceptional Michelin three-star status for over a decade.
One successful bidder at the auction will get the chance to dine with Adria in a restaurant in Barcelona and visit the premises of the elBulli restaurant, in Catalonia, Spain.
Another ticket to the dinner will be auctioned off on 26 April in New York.
Adria, who was in charge of the elBulli kitchen for 27 years, said the dinner offers a rare opportunity to discuss food and cooking ideas with him.
"Look, normally I never speak about cooking outside of my circle, of my team. I never speak about cuisine. So during two days, these people are going to be able to talk all the time about cuisine, about what I think of cooking. And if you like cuisine, I think this opportunity is thrilling," he said.
The proceeds of the auction will go to the elBulli Foundation, a project set up by Adria and business partner Juli Soler, which will turn the restaurant into an experimental centre looking at the process of culinary innovation and creativity.
The centre is expected to open in 2014.
The opening bid of the cutlery is 2,000 US dollars per set.
A selection of Petit Fours crockery and four elBulli chefs jackets signed by Adria will also be auctioned off.
