In this video, I head out on the Prairie Creek Trail, cross the Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway, and visit Big Tree in the James Irvine Grove section of Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park before returning via the Cathedral Trees Trail.
The 13th-largest single stem Redwood and the 7th-largest in the park, Big Tree is a 1500-year-old tree.
This entire hike is a 3-mile loop, and pairs nicely with the nearby Elk Prairie Trail or James Irvine and Miners Ridge trails to make a rather large loop, if you're looking for an extended walk through some old-growth Coast Redwoods.
On the way out of the park, I was surprised by a herd of Roosevelt elk congregating at the north end of Orick, California!
