When Bayer advertised Mirena® as a safe, convenient method of birth control for busy moms, approximately 2 million women in the United States had the intra-uterine device or (IUD) implanted.
Hello, my name is Lee Coleman and I want to tell you about a Kentucky woman who had the Mirena IUD implanted and what happened to her.
In December of 2009 Kara Sweet was implanted with the Mirena IUD. When she began having pain and cramps in her bowel and uterine area she was examined by a doctor who located the Mirena in her pelvis, between her vagina and rectum. Because of this perforation she required surgery to remove the Mirena.
Her lawsuit alleges that Mirena creates unreasonable dangers and is defective "because its labeling fails to adequately warn consumers and prescribers of, among other things, the risk of migration of the product post-insertion, uterine perforation post-insertion," and so forth.
One of the most serious side effects of the Mirena IUD is uterine perforation, like Ms. Sweet experienced. It is especially dangerous if it is not diagnosed quickly. Perforation can occur in blood vessels, intestines or other organs. If the Mirena IUD has migrated then surgery is always required to safely remove it. If you or someone you know had this device implanted and suffered perforation you should seek legal counsel to discuss filing a claim for compensation for medical expenses and pain and suffering. An experienced attorney can provide you with advice on building a case and what you can expect from a claim.
