In this series we try to make money by flipping electronics. Most of the items that we flip will be broken electronics that we fix and sell for a profit. The focus is going to be starting off with $100 and seeing where we can go from there. This is currently a fun side hustle that I am documenting to bring you guys insight in what I learn through this process.
Back in January I started to repair an Nintendo Switch that was reported to have a broken joycon rail that was preventing it from getting past the set up page. I purchased this switch for $80 on eBay and thought it would go very similarly to this first repair in which I would be able to swap some parts to get a working switch.
After taking apart the switch and having a better look, I found that the pins on the joy con connector were bent. My guess is someone tried to repair this switch before me and wasn't able to complete it fully.
At the time I really wanted to try and get better at micro soldering to try and repair this switch, but I never came around to getting good enough to attempt the repair.
For that reason I am going to call it and cut my losses with the switch. I don't see how I can repair this switch fully without potentially breaking something else. I decided to relist the switch back on eBay just to get my initial $80 out of the investment.
When you are fixing electronics there are going to be difficulties and challenges that you face. Sometimes you will not have the skills to fix every single problem and that is alright. In this case I didn't have the skills to solder on a new connector and still didn't feel confident in my ability to do so, for that reason I relisted the switch back on eBay and took it as a lesson to better understand and prepare for issues that arise given the information that you have about the electronic you are repairing.
