The wholesale distribution industry is facing several difficult challenges and is under major disruption due to factors ranging from Brexit, compliance, China tariffs, rising shipping costs, the growth of e-commerce, the containers’ stock breakage, or logistic problems such as March’s Suez Channel blockage and COVID-19, and the increase of manufacturers/suppliers and retailers bypassing the wholesale distribution channel and doing business directly with each other under a “Direct to Consumer” (D2C) business model. Technology is critical to streamlining the wholesale distribution ecosystem to rapidly create significant economic value.
