The Brooklyn based quartet Crystal Stilts recently compiled the two releases of their very own brand of new-wave flavored garage pop - a 7" and a 12" - on to a single disc and released it on the label Woodsist and digitally on eMusic Select.

It's an absolutely brilliant little record that makes other slightly JAMC-sounding acts pale in comparison. In addition to the obvious JAMC influence I personally hear traces of Joy Division, early Felt and perhaps a dash of early Orange Juice as well.

The band is set to release a proper debut album in the end of October 2008 - it's to be titled Alight of Night.

I love this track - Converging in the Quiet - for the special "ambient" twist to it and it reminds me of one of the great anthems of 90s ambient techno - "Tha" by Aphex Twin from the classic album Selected Ambient Works 85-92.
