Woo Hoo! An EXTRA-long Bing Bong!

Justifiably. A BabyFaceBren tribute to the “Comedy! Bang! Bang!” girls is overdue. There should be at least two by now, so I’m making up for lost time, with as many funny girls as possible. If only I could include them all, but I had to stop sometime and 9 hours felt right (I didn't want to overdo it). I laugh when I imagine double-takes (maybe spit-takes) over the length of this super-dupercut, but I think big doses of Scotty Auks' blues-busting elixir are just what the doctor ordered for these times. The many songs in the final segment had me concerned copyright issues would force me to cut chunks, but it got through (so far), though a song from another segment did prevent this video from being viewed in just one country. I hate that notification, followed by a nervous click to see which viewers are affected. It sucks when it's the USA, the largest section of my audience, but thankfully the Americans were spared, as were the UK, Canada and Australia, where the majority of the remaining viewers are. I'm not going to worry about it. To cut 20 seconds and upload again would take 13 hours (6 to convert, 7 to upload), so my apologies to them, not that they will see it.

That's a shame for the great Danes, because this is a wonderful selection of “Comedy Bang! Bang!” episodes, some with ensembles, others intimate; classic characters and rare roles (some of them "one-offs"); celebrities being themselves (and “themselves”). On the off-chance you can’t listen for nine hours in one go ;-) timecode below will take you to where you left off, or to your favourites. To keep it surprising, only the guests’ names are listed, though that’s all that will be needed for diehard CBB fans to identify some episodes, including one in my All-Time Top Ten, featuring (spoiler alert) Jessica St. Clair in a movie-length tour de force as Marissa Wompler, watching horrified and helpless as her birthday bash literally turns to shit. Hearing St. Clair’s screams of joy, shock, outrage, fear, anger and desperation, while looking at photos of her recording Wompler episodes, I realised how hard St. Clair works on her performance and I think it's the only time I've found that un-doctored photos can also make the audio funnier, thanks to those great expressions. It’s definitely Jessica’s ep and she makes the most of it, with hilarious reactions to each calamity, in an episode full of them, thanks to some of the quickest, cleverest and weirdest mistresses and masters of improv, playing Wompler's friends, enemies and frenemies, with a rare Scott Aukerman character to make the episode one with everything. It’s also one of those CBBs ("The Exorcism of Cake Boss" being another) that always has me thinking “This CAN’T be made up on the spot!”. There are so many funny lines (you’ll need a few listens to catch them all) and silly scenarios, it’s easy to imagine it took weeks to come up with plot and dialogue rather than seconds, an example of great minds in sync, all on their game and bouncing beautifully off one another and I'm looking forward to Scott and co. returning to the studio, where they excel. Though they have given us some very funny episodes in 2020 and must be enjoying the convenient side of working from home, I’m sure they must also be dying to give up the Zoom and play in one room. Zoom makes mere meetings tough, I can't imagine how challenging it must be for a podcast.

I hope the "Comedy Bang! Bang!" clips here (& the few sight gags) will have you laughing a LOT and, if you find them, enjoy those Easter eggs too, while I take a little time off to exercise and TRY to exorcise a song ("Bad Beef"/"Hey, Drake!") and Gobo's hilarious, yet glass-shattering falsetto out of my brain.
