Reporter: "Very cool. How do you get to be on the jury?"
Padma Lakshmi: "They have to ask you. I have no idea! I got an email and they said, 'we'd really like you to be a part of the jury.'
I said, 'are you sure?"
They said, 'Yeah."
And I said, 'OK.'
I'm really pleased. I love this festival. I've gone to a lot of the movies over the years that they've featured. I think it's a great thing for the city. I'm really excited to be a part of it."

11. SOUNDBITE: (English) Matthew Modine:
"Well, I have a film in the festival. It's a short film called, 'I Think I Thought' about a fellow that gets in trouble for thinking. He ends up in 'Thinkers Anonymous'. It's a good film. It was made here in the city, with musicians from Julliard that did the score for the film. Ben Wolf led them - (he's) a great musician. It's all New Yorkers, filmed on location here in New York. It's a film that celebrates the beauty of the city."

They're both such tremendous talents and I'm so delighted that I got to work with them and that we made the movie in New York- it's supposed to be Philadelphia- but I'm delighted that it's starting off the festival here."

TRIBECA KICKS OF WITH VANITY FAIR PARTY
Some New York's biggest stars showed up to court on Tuesday night (22APR08).
The New York State Supreme Courthouse was, once again, the setting of one of the year's biggest parties as Vanity Fair kicked off the Tribeca Film Festival with their annual star-studded fete.
Festival kingpin Robert De Niro headed the parade of A-Listers that included Jerry Seinfeld, James Gandolfini, Larry David, David Bowie and countless others.
Native New Yorker Padma Lakshmi, star of the hit Bravo show 'Top Chef', was recognised for her judging prowess and given a spot on the festival's jury. She had glowing praise for the festival: "I'm really pleased. I love this festival. I've gone to a lot of the movies over the years that they've featured. I think it's a great thing for the city. I'm really excited to be a part of it."
Opening the festival later today (23APR08) is the comedy "Baby Mama" starring Amy Poehler and Tina Fey and featuring film icon Sigourney Weaver. They're both such tremendous talents, she said of the leading ladies, "and I'm so delighted that I got to work with them and that we made the movie in New York- it's supposed to be Philadelphia- but I'm delighted that it's starting off the festival here."
The Tribeca Film Festival runs from April 23 to May 4.
