Franklin Park, located in downtown Washington D.C., occupies a site steeped in history. The importance of water has served as a unifying thread through time – centered on a natural wellspring, the park was originally set aside to serve as a fresh water source for the White House. Later, this original spring was memorialized as a central fountain in a Jacksonian-designed landscape, as well as in the current, formal Beaux Arts design.
The next iteration of Franklin Park has been reimagined as a historic, urban square designed to emphasize inclusion, extending welcome and respite to all, while continuing the celebration of water within this cultural landscape.
