This is a video of our patient who had her thumb partially amputated in a motorcycle accident many years ago. She has been very self conscious about the look of her thumb and has hidden her hand from view through much of her life. She was fit with her custom aesthetic thumb prosthesis by our certified prosthetist/anaplastologist near Hackensack, NJ in 2021 over just 3 days. Having just being fit, our patient is just learning how to handle and care for her prosthesis, which is processed in a very tough durable medical silicone which will last many years. The best way to remove the prosthesis is to pinch the edge a little and allow some soapy water or hand sanitizer to seep under the prosthesis. Then, pinching the edge just a little will allow air to break the suction fit that retains the prosthesis. Finally, a gentle pulling and rotating of the prosthesis will help it slide off.
Our patient is one of hundreds we have provided with similar lifelike silicone prosthetic restorations since 1985. She will have the advantage of knowing she can be seen in a number of US locations by one of our credentialed practitionrs when she wants to refurbish or replace her prosthesis from her savely archived original mold.
