STORYLINE
French president-elect Nicolas Sarkozy spent Sunday night at the famous Hotel Fouquet's on Champs-Elysee in Paris with his wife Cecilia and their three children, following a big concert last night on the Place de la Concorde where he addressed a cheering crowd of supporters.
Sarkozy, a pro-American conservative and an immigrant's son, defeated Socialist Segolene Royal by 53.06 percent to 46.94 percent with an 84 percent voter turnout, according to final results released early Monday.
Sarkozy always maintained he had a clear vision for France's future.
He wants to free up labour markets and plans tougher measures on crime and immigration.
According to advisor and close ally Francois Fillon, Sarkozy plans to stay out of the public eye for a few days.
Fillon is expected to be the obvious choice for prime minister in Sarkozy's cabinet when the new president takes over from outgoing leader Jacques Chirac on May 16.
Fillon said Sarkozy's new government would be announced on May 19 or 20.
