Think you know what the Arctic was like during the Eocene Epoch? Imagine standing in water up to your knees and being surrounded by towering dawn redwood trees. The climate was warm and humid. And in winter, the period of daylight shortened so that it was dark nearly all the time—just as it does today—but the temperature never got really cold.
