Let me change your mind. Here's why I learned mandarin.
It all began in 2012, this was the first time I arrived in China. It was never going to be easy as I’d landed in a remote area where no one knew any english. But looking back this was the best thing that could have happened. I had mastered how to say “Hi” and the locals went mad for it, they were so happy to hear a foreigner showing an interest their language. The satisfaction that I gained from being able to interact with locals whilst slowly getting to know more about the chinese culture is what still gives me passion to this day.
I first went to china back in 2012. Before that I worked in the UK for several radio stations and promotion companies but it got to a point where I just wanted something a little more adventurous.
Whilst in China I have been a primary, secondary and kindergarten english teacher. By far the most fun has to be with the little ones, they are so crazy! I can do serious too, but it’s just not as fun.
Honestly, without the people I couldn't have done it. They are so welcoming.
Thanks to the locals and the one night stands I can now say I speak fluent mandarin.
