The Republican Party met behind closed doors this week to craft their policy platform for the 2024 election, and it ended up becoming whatever Donald Trump wanted it to be. This left many of the policy committee members incensed, and they spoke to local media about how angry they are about these decisions. The people on social media had a lot of fun mocking them for getting exactly what they deserve for making Trump their king, as Farron Cousins explains.

The Republican National Committee officially voted on and approved their party platform for this year's election. And it is essentially exactly what Donald Trump told them the platform was going to be, right. The, uh, insiders on that committee with the RNC to draft the platform didn't really have much of a say. And some of them are very off about that specifically, and this is the real irony of the story. They're off that Donald Trump's agenda is not as extreme as they would like it to be because it does not specifically call for a nationwide ban on abortions. One committee member who has been exceptionally outspoken, a woman by the name of Gail Ika, had this to say, I've never seen this happen before. I don't understand why they did it. And I'm extremely disappointed that we do not have any pro-life language. They rolled us.
That's what they did. Then you have a self-described pastor by the name of Steven Simpson of Alabama, who said, Donald Trump is not pro-life. He has cynically used the pro-life movement and played evangelicals in general. It was all transactional of false bargain. The GOP is a cult of personality, sincerely, a former longtime GOP activist and continuing crass follower. If you're an actual Christ follower, you would've ditched the GOPA long time ago. Um, and I love the fact that you're okay with Donald Trump's financial fraud that he was found liable for in civil court. You're okay with the sexual assault that he was found liable for in civil court. You were okay with him having an affair with a adult film star, um, and then doing financial fraud to cover that up Like that didn't bother you. But because the party platform suggests that the issue of abortion should be left to the states, which is still exceptionally extreme and a danger to women across the country, um, but because there's no nationwide ban in the language, like that's a bridge too far for this.
So-called Pastor, all of Trump's other stuff like totally forgivable. Everybody does it right? But this, no, that's, that's the bridge too far. Of course, the folks on social media are having a fun time with this, right? Uh, Steve Anderson of the Notorious Essay Podcast put on Twitter, I never thought leopards would eat my face sobs woman who voted for the leopards eating people's faces party, which of course is a common meme that has been going around since the early days of the Trump years, of course, because y'all wanted a king. Y'all got a king. And now suddenly, immediately you're like, oh, oh,
Oh dear. Oh me, what am I gonna do? This man can just do whatever the hell he wants. Oh God, I'm so sad. Oh,
You deserve it. You deserve every second of this. And for the record, Donald Trump's party platform that does call for states to decide the issue is exceptionally extreme. Something that prior to the Dobbs decision, which by the way, Trump brags about all the time, putting the justices on the court to give us that decision, um, a few years ago, this would've been illegal. But here's the reason. The state by state strategy is of course equally as extreme because these states are not just outlawing abortions in their states. They're outlawing people traveling to other states to have the procedure done. They're tracking people down that go to other states like they're actually interfering with the constitutional right to interstate commerce. And, and the courts are just like, whatever we're gonna let it be. So it is effectively a, a nationwide ban. They're threatening to jail doctors who perform the procedure.
Doctors are now refusing to care for women who have, you know, a, a, a questionable pregnancies that may not be viable 'cause the doctors don't want to go to jail if the woman loses the baby. Women are on the verge of dying in multiple instances that have been reported because of these state by state bans on this.
