I Question: What are the latest developments in predictive biomarkers in septic shock?
I Answer: Prof. James A. Russell, Intensivist / Internist, St. Paul's Hospital, Vancouver, Canada
---------------------------------------
Predictive biomarkers in septic shock are the future for clinical trials and clinical management, predictive biomarkers tell us which patients responded better to drugs, and we know that because sepsis is so heterogeneous many trials in the past have failed. Our laboratory is very keen to develop new predictive biomarkers that identify which patients respond to drugs, which patients do better, which do worse and three that we're particularly focused on our PCSK9 markers for treatment of with vasopressin on cell impressing and heparin binding protein so these markers I think will improve the chances of having some positive trials and substance of septic shock, but more importantly when these drugs are approved and on the market you can imagine a doctor using a predictive biomarker kit to identify who to treat that will be both better for the patient and better for the system.
