(14 Jul 2017) Frances Flescher was born into a Jewish family in Iasi, Romania. Her father was killed by the Nazis.
"I know that they went on the "death train," said Flescher. "They call it the "death train," yes and they suffocated them till the end."
Germany will start paying her and 1,000 other Romanians around $380 per month in restitution.
"We were walking around hungry," rememberd Flescher of the war years. "There was nothing to eat, absolutely nothing."
The payments were negotiated by the Conference on Material Claims Against Germany.
"While we cannot change the past and we cannot reduce the suffering of people we can at least have reached for them some measure of justice," said Colette Avital, one of the negotiators for the Conference.
"We were persecuted," said Flescher. "We were killed left and right but nobody recognized us. Anyway, finally, it's never too late, thank God. I'm happy about that."
