Students at Sciences Po University in Paris staged a protest in solidarity with Gaza on campus. The elite political sciences university became the centre of a wave of student protests at several schools this week in France over the Israeli war on Gaza and academic ties with Israel, according to Reuters.
Students told Reuters that around 70 students spent Thursday night occupying Sciences Po’s main building in central Paris. At least one person began a hunger strike.
This came after Sciences Po’s director rejected protesters’ demands to review the school’s relations with Israeli universities on Thursday. Students mentioned that negotiations with the university did not progress, and the institution did not issue a formal statement.
The Sciences Po buildings were closed on Friday. The local newspaper Le Parisien and Radio France Inter reported that an internal university memo asked staff to work from home since the university buildings were closed.
