STORYLINE:
Police in Nepal said they have detained more than 100 Tibetan exiles who were protesting against Chinese rule over their homeland.
The Tibetan protesters who had gathered for a prayer meeting on the outskirts of Katmandu on Tuesday started chanting anti-China slogans.
Police broke up the gathering violently, detained the protesters and took them away in trucks to detention centres.
There have been several similar protests in the past in Nepal.
The police generally don't charge the protesters and they are soon released.
Nepal has been criticised by international rights groups and the United Nations for use of excessive force against the protesters.
The government has said it will continue to allow thousands of Tibetan exiles to live in Nepal but won't let them protest against China, a friendly nation.
