Although ice cream was not introduced to the United States by Jefferson, the third president had a notable love for the dessert. He helped popularize it in the country and is often falsely credited with inventing it. A recipe for ice cream, written in Jefferson's own hand, still survives today and is housed at the Library of Congress.
