Various businesses have been affected by load shedding and they are trying to re-adjust their plans and scale down operations due to unexpected power cuts. Some mortuaries are not spared and the operators say if they did not have generators the bodies would have decomposed. Some say blackouts also affect their communication systems, because telephones don't operate when the lights are out, making it difficult to communicate with clients when they want to make funeral arrangements. They say they do have cellphones as backup, but many phone calls take a lot of battery power and at some point, they aren't able to recharge them due to lack of electricity.
