The Crested Chinese dog is not only a hairless representative with smooth, warm, and supple skin, with hair growing only in the head area, on the legs, and on the tail. In another part of the breed, the entire body is covered with delicate veil-like long flowing hairs, without undercoat. There is another division, which is characterized by the structure of the body. First of all, it is the deer type, characterized by mobility due to its light skeleton. The other type has a skeleton and body quite heavy.

The dog of this breed has an essential detail - the crest on the head, which continues on the neck. By the way, the crest may not be very long. But it is still preferable if it is descending. At the tip of the ponytail grows a long falling tassel. If it is not there, it is considered a great disadvantage in evaluating the dog, as well as a short tail.

Small naked dogs in former times were considered sacred. They guarded the imperial treasury because they were ascribed unusual magical qualities. There was a time when the answer to a given question depended on their behavior, and on this basis, the imperial decision was made as to what to do next. Beautiful velvet cushions were sewn for miniature crested dogs, and their necks were adorned with pearl necklaces.

Heavy-boned dogs had a different, sad fate. They were used as a delicacy. Sailors would take them on long voyages, and on the ship, the dogs would hunt hordes of rats, and quite successfully.
