Marvra Winner, special education teacher, explains why she enjoys helping children and their families. “I get to form special relationships with my students,” said Winner, while in her classroom at Ridgeview Elementary School, “work on their individual needs and take care of anything that they need academically, as well as work on social skills.”
Originally from Chapman, Alabama, Winner received her master’s degree in special education from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. In 2010, she started working in District 49 at Ridgeview Elementary School, where she’s been a reading tutor, a health and wellness team co-leader and Zumba Kids instructor. She recently launched a Walk of Wellness program for students.
A program advisor, Winner was inducted into the “Fuel Up to Play 60” 2013-2014 Hall of Fame, as one of her fifth-graders, Roddy Lewis, became one of two student ambassadors for Colorado. The program, founded by the NFL and National Dairy Council, empowers students to eat healthy and complete 60 minutes of exercise every day. Adults who demonstrate a dedication to helping students lead healthy lifestyles get selected for its Hall of Fame. Roddy is now traveling as a national ambassador, speaking at various conferences.
