Eskom and trade unions NUM, NUMSA and Solidarity have begun the last round of wage negotiations in Sandton, Johannesburg. Unions want management to withdraw the conditional 1-and-a-half percent wage increase offer it tabled earlier this month. They want the power utility to table a new offer with no conditions. Eskom management made the offer on condition that unions agree that the power utility's 45 thousand employees must give up numerous benefits which they have enjoyed for many years. These include leave and transfer allowances.
