In the United States the opening of a roughly 200-year-old lead box at the military academy West Point ended in disappointment.
The much-anticipated opening was live-streamed on Monday and attended by staff, students, and a panel of historians.
But the box turned out to be empty with nothing inside except some mud and silt.
The mysterious box was discovered in May during the removal of a statue, leading experts to guess that it was a time capsule put in place when the statue was erected in 1829.
Its composition meant that historians were unable to scan the box's contents before its opening.
The box's muddy contents will be analyzed for anything of value.
