Nearly nine lakh COVID-19 tests were conducted in a single day in the country, taking the cumulative tests to 3,09,41,264, said the health ministry. ‘The daily new cases from August 13 are down from over 64,000 to 55,079 now. There is a declining trend. But five days are a short span in the context of a pandemic and there is no room for laxity on containment, testing and surveillance,’ said health ministry Rajesh Bhushan. He further added that the number of recovered patients has reached close to 20 lakhs, which is 2.93 times of active COVID-19 cases. Bhushan added that the case fatality rate has also come down to 2% and they are aiming to bring the rate under 1% in the future. The Health Ministry though warned against any laxity on the part of the common man and said that people should continue to follow Covid preventive measures like social distancing, wearing masks and washing hands frequently.
