The human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, which first became available 10 years ago, is now strongly recommended for all children as a first line of defense against several types of cancers caused by the HPV infection. However, many parents still struggle with the decision to vaccinate their son or daughter, as information about the vaccine can be confusing. In this installment of Health Watch, Richard Moriarty, MD, a leading pediatric infectious disease expert and a professor with the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, explains how the vaccine prevents cancer, who should receive it and when. For more information, tune in to our free webinar What Every Parent Needs to Know - The HPV Vaccine and Cancer Prevention, accessible at [ Ссылка ], with Dr. Moriarty and Sarah Hughes, MD, gynecologic oncologist at UMass Memorial Medical Center.
