The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for isolated heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu, North Interior Karnataka, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh today, September 21, 2024. As the monsoon season progresses, a low-pressure area is expected to form over the northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal around September 23.
In the past 24 hours, significant rainfall has been recorded in several regions, including heavy showers in Telangana, North Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Notably, Sholinganallur in Chennai saw up to 17 cm of rainfall.
Upcoming Weather Systems
Conditions are becoming favorable for the withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon from parts of West Rajasthan and Kachchh starting September 23. The IMD reports that an upper air cyclonic circulation over the westcentral Bay of Bengal, combined with another circulation over northern Thailand, is expected to influence weather patterns.
