Two entangled seals in one run, both entangled in fishing line. Naude's big seal pup got away with nothing but a big scare, but Antoine's seal has a very painful cut on her shoulder. The rescuers carefully pull it out to avoid further pain, and they watch her waddle back into he ocean, where she belongs. It's her natural habitat, she has nowhere else to go. Like so many other animals that fall victim to plastic pollution, she has no way to escape the plastic pest.
The OCN team is incredibly proud of their achievements over the past few years, but we often wonder if we will be doing this for the rest of our lives. Have we become the fishing industry's clean up crew? Is their responsibility fulfilled because they call us every once in a while to report an entangled animal? 🦭
