Parasite Eve may be the single most fascinating PS1 game to look back on today. Thanks to its unique blend of horror and JRPG concepts, it's a game that hasn't been replicated in the 20 years since its release, not even by its own sequels. As one of Square's first big titles following Final Fantasy VII, Parasite Eve's high production values led to its nickname - the first "cinematic RPG" - and it gave players a taste of what gaming would look like in the very near future. And, on top of all of this, it's not even a unique franchise owned by Square Enix; Parasite Eve is a licensed game, the first video game that's a direct sequel to a novel! In today's retrospective, we'll look back at one of the most unique games to ever grace the PlayStation, Square's Resident Evil RPG: Parasite Eve.
