Starting from zero experience, I made a time lapse of what it sounds like to learn the piano. What kind of progress can you expect?
For background, my prior experience with music was in high school percussion in the 90's. I was familiar with the treble clef, but couldn't really read it.
Consistency is key - practice daily, and keep a time sheet (if you're like me, and need rigor in your life. You'll be surprised at how fast you progress.

I can't claim extensive knowledge (this is the only book I've tried), but I can't recommend it enough. It starts you off from zero, and slowly adds complexity until you feel you can actual play something that really sounds like a song. Good stuff.
