You may have watched Now Now’s mini-documentary, Mirage, which is a look at the genesis of the wave known as Skeleton Bay, and how this unique surf spot on the edge of the Namib Desert came to be (watch it here if you haven't: [ Ссылка ]). In amongst all the tubes and carnage, one wave stands out from the rest. Around the 09:00 minute mark and you’ll see the camera quickly pan to a double-lipped tube that is obscene, even by Skeleton Bay standards. A surfer is seen briefly holding on for dear life until he gets bucked off his board and the wave of a lifetime continues to rifle down the point without him, accompanied by wails of anguish from the beach courtesy of Koa and Alex Smith.
It’s bad enough eating it on a potentially life-changing wave – now imagine it being replayed over and over again.
As it turns out, Taj Burrow (wisely, we think) wanted nothing to do with the wave in question before South African surfer Luke Slijpen put his head down and gave it a go.
