This is for people who have many identical hard drives on their computers, for me I always populate every sata port with hard drives to get the maximum capacity out of it. If the hard drive make and the size of the hard drive were all different, you wouldn't have to do this. You could physically open your computer, and find the boot hard drive by simply knowing the hard drive brand or capacity of the hard drive. In my case, I can't do that, because all the hard drives are Western Digital Blue 1 TB hdds. You can use this method on basically any computer to find the boot drive.
You want to be able to remove the boot drive, because the drive might be bad, or the operating system is corrupt due to a failing hard drive. More than likely hard drives with operating systems do fail from time to time, because that is the most used hard drive. Windows is constantly updating to your boot drive, and it is constantly spinning. This wears it out over time, and it happens a lot with mechanical hard drives. For SSDs, it might not be common if you just use your hard drive to boot from with your Operating System. SSDs can be read over and over again, and they will never wear out. The only times they do get worn out is if you constantly write and erase data from them.
