Earlier we have informed you that, DRDO has successfully test fired cluster munitions version of Pinaka rocket at Pokharan in which each rocket will have 234 bomblets. This munition can be fired from all version of Pinaka i.e. Mk1, Mk2 and guided Pinaka. As per the latest update coming today, DRDO, along with the Army has conducted series of performance evaluation trials of industry produced Pinaka Extended Range (Pinaka-ER) rockets. Not just one or two but total of 24 Pinaka ER missiles were test fired in last 3 days. So, today we are going to understand in detail about the significance of this test. In these trials, enhanced range Pinaka rockets were test fired at different ranges with various warhead capabilities which we have explained in our last video as well. All the trial objectives were met satisfactorily. Total of 24 rockets were fired for 3 days with different ranges and warhead capabilities to meet the objectives of accuracy and consistency. Pinaka can fire different types of warheads. If we look at the press release of DRDO, they have reported to test indigenously developed Area Denial Munitions (ADM), dual-purpose Direct-Action Self Destruction (DASD) & Anti-Tank Munition (ATM) fuze and indigenously developed fuze, at various test ranges. The ARDE, Pune has developed different fuze for Pinaka rocket for different types of applications. Fuze is a device with necessary safeties and explosive elements, designed to initiate explosive train when the specified conditions are met. These indigenously developed fuzes will replace the imported fuzes and save our foreign exchange reserve. The ARDE has also designed miniaturised fuze for ADMs. The test also validated a navigation, control and guidance system of the missiles which is also assisted by Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System. The munition for the Pinaka used in the trial was manufactured by the industry partners under technology transfer. These trials are part of performance evaluation under technology absorption. With this, the initial phase of technology absorption of Pinaka-ER by the Industry Partner has successfully been completed making the Industry Partner ready for series production of the rocket system. Pinaka is an all-weather, artillery multi-barrel rocket system. It can fire 72 rockets in 44 seconds. It delivers lethal and responsive fire against a variety of area targets such as exposed enemy troops, armoured and soft skin vehicles, communication centres, air terminal complexes, fuel and ammunition dumps. If we talk about the current test of Pinaka, it is Pinaka-ER version which uses satellites for navigation, means its guided Pinaka. The guided Pinaka is 214mm calibre rocket with weight of about 325kgs and can carry warhead of 100kgs. The missile uses INS and GPS for navigation. The missile has circular error probability of less than 60m.
