Here's why I bought a full-sized electronic drum kit rather than a small or more compact one. It's important to me that the kit feels as realistic as possible when I'm playing it and so the gap between the drums needs to be as similar as possible to my acoustic kit. The Roland TD-30 is great for this as it has the larger 10-12 in pads utilising the PDX-100s for the smaller toms and the PD-125 for the largest floor tom, along with the superb PD-128s for the snare drum.
