Voice over narration is a difficult technique to get right.
The essay examines its presence in Alfonso Cuarón's 'Y Tu Mamá También' (2001), a Mexican coming of age film which explores adolescence, sexuality, and issues of personal and national identity.
In this unique example, voice over narration enhances the story, characters and cinematic experience, allowing us to develop a deep and complex connection to the subjectivities of its protagonists.
