Is it bad if cats eat grass?
Dogs are more likely to eat grass than cats, since they are closer to omnivores. For example, their pet food is often mostly corn where as cats is pretty much pure meat.
And gristle and fat. But since they don't eat vegetable matter periodically like dogs, is it a concern if they do?
If the cat is eating catnip or a related herb, they may be doing it to get high.
My cat is one of the fifty percent that don't care about catnip.
Cats sometimes eat grass to help pass through their protein. People eating mostly meat often get stuffed up, and cats are carnivores.
I wish I could just give her a bowl of oatmeal instead. When she eats grass, she tends to throw up.
Some cats eat grass to help ease their indigestion.
Throwing up after eating it makes me think it is counter-productive.
Think of all the bone, gristle and guts your pet ate. Eating grass to throw up indigestible matter like feathers is better for the cat than having it get stuck in the small intestine.
That makes a little sense.
Cats cough up their own fur. Eating grass helps them throw up the fur of the mouse they had for dinner.
I heard it had natural vitamins and minerals in it.
You could think of it that way. Eating grass may even taste better than the wheat grass shakes you tried to get me to drink.
One of the problems with the cat eating grass is all the balls of what the heck she throws up. The other is what is on the grass itself.
So have parts of the yard near the door that aren't sprayed with pesticides. You might even want to have a small herb garden that you let the cat eat.
I never thought I'd have a reason to want to plant catnip.
As long as you keep it organic.
Naturally.
