Fifty years ago on March 14, 1968, the ABC TV series Batman ended it's Prime Time network run. It was an incredible run of two years, three seasons, and a meteoric rise and cultural phenomenon.
The series brought a level of camp and vibrant colors and wild story lines that took the nation by storm, and it's charm affected the television landscape. NBC's The Man From U.N.C.L.E., CBS' Lost In Space and ABC's Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea had a near chain-reaction of becoming more hip and younger. Other adventure shows, such as the Wild Wild West, also saw changes in their approach as color television, the baby-boomers and the impact of Batman swept broadcast television.
Batman would continue to be a success on both ABC reruns (what Adam West may be referring to when Vicki asks him how long Batman ran originally) and on television syndication. The phenomenon continued for decades and continues even today.

A final closing-credit clip tomorrow in our tribute to Batman.
