Korea Aerospace Industries held a flight demonstration for its upcoming Light Armed Helicopter (LAH).
KAI partnered with Airbus for the LAH program to fulfill domestic military & civil requirements. The military version, known as LAH, will enter service in 2022 to replace MD500 Defender helicopters in service with the Republic of Korea Army. The civilian variant, known as Light Civil Helicopter (LCH) will be marketed towards various civilian agencies.
LAH and LCH are based on the Airbus H155B1 (formerly EC155) helicopter, which is an improved / modernized version of the AS365 Dauphin helicopter. KAI acquired rights to produce and market these helicopters while Airbus shifts its focus to its latest H160 helicopter.
Feedbacks from test pilots appear to be very positive. They praise the helicopter's improved maneuverability & stability over legacy aircraft.
LAH is expected to be integrated with Manned-Unmmaned-Teaming (MUM-T) for greater tactical flexibility.
