DJI Mavic mini Fly more purchased from curry’s UK with a £400 gift card that I only got for £300 on FB so cost me £359 overall.
After purchasing I realised that there are two versions the CE and FCC version, the CE version with restrictions and less range so I decided to see which will be best for me living in a city with a lot of interference.
I did at one point loose complete connection causing the RTH to kick in. Also I was keeping it at a 50M hight and was launched out my attic window this did help the signal as there are a lot of trees around.
I am thinking of upgrading the antennas to see if I can improve the range and connection, I would really appreciate any help or advice. I have got 2 10dbi dual band antennas to see if this helps, iv also got 2 x 2.4ghz 2w 5v boosters and flat panal antennas (£50 for all this from eBay) to see how much of a difference it would make mainly to improve the connection as it’s really bad. I ordered these before this range test as I thought it’s the obvious frequency to upgrade but the 5.8ghz performed a lot better in my location so thinking that would have been the better choice.
UPDATE!!
I did mod the controller to fit external antennas, I tried a few different ones, all with less range then the originals, these were the:
dual band 10dbi antenna

Flat panel 8 dbi 2.4ghz directional panels

Immersion rc flat Panal 5.8ghz antennas that were mounted on their 45degrees frame

I also tried boosting them with both 2.4ghz and 5.8ghz antenna boosters, I brought 2 of them each

and didn’t really see any improvements, maybe it was because I didn’t do it right but I was getting less signal then the original antennas.
Iv heard that the more I boost it the more amplified the interference will be so this maybe the most logical explanation to why I didn’t see any increased distance.
I enjoyed modding it more then flying it, didn’t really use it much after that so sold it on after putting the original antennas back on.
My advice if you need better signal is to go for a Mavic with occusync, even the Mavic pro 1 has far superior signal strength and it’s about the same price.
But if distance is not an issue this is one of the best drones you could have.
