In the Poetics, Aristotle praises Oedipus Rex as the perfect tragedy. Oedipus Rex is an Athenian Tragedy written by Sophocles, and first performed in 429 BC. It relates the history of a man named Oedipus who becomes King of Thebes while unwittingly killing his father and marrying his mother.
