There was a group of scouts who had already some singing experience...Schmidt-Gaden was invited to train the boys. And they performed Bavarian folk- songs.
Than the bavarian radio network discovered them and recorded the boys. After that the conductor (Kantor) of the St. Thomas Boys choir (Thomanerchor) recognized Schmidt-Gadens talent and invited him to Leipzig..He received a scholarship from Ulbrich. There Schmidt-Gaden studied everything what the Thomaners did and soon recognized that their Bach performances were not authentically at all. Bach originally used 4 persons per voice and one of the 4 even sang the solo aria.
Than the original rooms of the choir are shown followed by a picture of Carl Orff who was a regular guest teacher of the choir since the early 60's...The Toelzer's even performed with Carl Orff his "schoolwork"...
Than you can probably a small piece out of it...The boys are saying together: "Carl Orff and the Toelzer's they fit well together..."
Car Orff himself had boys and Schmidt-Gaden learned lots of him...Orff once said to him "Yes, my dear every note is right.now ...and Schmidt-Gaden even expected a greater praise, but than Orff said: Now, the real work can start...And that is Schmidt-Gaden's principle even today...You can always do better. Most people tend to stop the work than, but for him this is the point where to start.
Than choir one is shown: The smallest and inexperienced singers are members of this choir. The conductor of the choir explains: They are first graders and have lessons twice week...Each lesson is two hours long..and additional they have individual voice training...
Part of their training is rhythm and movement (how Orff teached it) , because it is very good to become familiar with music and singing. And 6 year olds can't concentrate for 2 hours.
Finally, a choir boy is asked how he was chosen...He said someone came to his school and invited him to audition and after auditioning he received an letter that he was accepted.
