My first ever music video / trailer thingy I made for my own amusement and to practice editing for the media course I'm currently studying at college. The video clips are from 'Children of Men', one of my all time favourite movies by Alfonso Cuaron. The songs playing are the Intro and second track (Apocalypse Please) of Absolution, a brilliant album by Muse that I recommend.
All-in-all, I'm quite pleased with the finished result, however there are a few improvements to be made. For one, there are some sounds I should have perhaps muted that do not work well within cuts. Also, it can be quite inconsistent at times in terms of quick and long shots, but at other times this works out well and matches up with the music quite nicely. I tried to capture some of the most important elements and most effective shots from the movie, however due to cutting within the song, there are a few shots I feel could've worked well in there. For instance, at the end of the video it cuts immediately between Theo and Kee staggering away from gunfire and explosions and them sailing on the boat. Ideally, it would have been better to have included a shot of them stepping onto the boat.
In the first half of the video I hoped to capture the relationship between Theo and Julian with few visual references to Kee and the pregnancy. The second half however is focused more on saving humanity.
The entire thing was done in 'Windows Movie Maker'. I DO NOT recommend this software, but it was the only thing I had. I was unable to preview clips properly which made the process of checking that the shots cut in time with the music painful.
