HONG KONG PAYS TRIBUTE TO PERFORMING ARTS
One of Hong Kong's best known performers, Andy Lau, was honoured by the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts (HKAPA) on Friday for outstanding contribution to performing arts.
Lau, collected the Honorary Fellowship award sporting a new grey hairstyle for an upcoming film.
Lau started his career as a TV actor in Hong Kong's TVB drama series after graduating from TVB actor's training class in 1981.
His film debut role was in the award winning "Boat People," directed by Ann Hui.
During his 25 years in the entertainment field, Lau has filmed more than 100 movies.
In 1999, he won the best actor award at Hong Kong Film Awards with director Johnnie To's 'Running Out of the Time.'
In 2003, 'Running on Karma' won him two more best actor awards by Hong Kong Film Critics Society and the Hong Kong Film Awards.
In 2003, Lau's performance as triad mole in 'Infernal Affairs 3' earned him another best actor award this time from Taiwan's Golden Horse Awards.
In recent years, Lau has invested in film production.
He founded Teamwork Motion Pictures, who created art-house films 'Made in Hong Kong' (1997), 'The Longest Summer' (1998) and 'Fulltime Killer' (2001).
Although he never made a profit from his art-house endeavours, Lau remains determined to
to promote quality film in Hong Kong.
Lau also launched and financed the 'Focus: First Cut's' project, a series of feature films directed by six young directors from Hong Kong and Southeast Asia.
A man of many talents - Lau also exploited music releasing more than 100 records from 1985-2006. His musical releases caught the attention of MTV Asia, and Channel V who named him 'Most Popular Asian Artist.'
A total of eight people received Honorary Fellowship awards during the academy's 20th graduation ceremony on Friday.
