Operation Wandering Soul was a psychological warfare tactic used by the U.S. military during the Vietnam War. Exploiting Vietnamese beliefs that the souls of those who die improperly wander the earth, the operation involved playing eerie, ghostly sounds and voices over loudspeakers in the jungle. These recordings, featuring wailing and Vietnamese actors pretending to be dead soldiers, aimed to scare and demoralize Viet Cong fighters, making them believe they were haunted by restless spirits.
