In this one we take a look at the Proto-Indo-European language which was spoken thousands of years ago in present-day Ukraine and Southern Russia. It is the great-grandmother of nearly all European languages. Finnish is not one of them but, throughout the millenia, it has received numerous loanwords from them (the PIE langauge and its descendants, for example Proto-Indo-Iranian, Proto-Germanic, Swedish, Russian and English).
